Wicomico County MDGenWeb HOW TO SUBMIT DATA TO THE WICOMICO MDGENWEB PROJECT |
The free data provided on Wicomico MDGenWeb Project is some of the most popular and helpful areas of this web site, due to our many dedicated and generous transcribers/donors who take the time to share the records they've collected with other researchers through this web site.
If you would like to join this group of highly appreciated volunteers, let me first thank you for your willingness to share your time to accomplish this important task. There are so many researchers who find it difficult to get to the records they need, and online data is a blessing to them.
Please read over the following guidelines before submitting your records . . .
TRANSCRIPTION FORMAT:
You may find it helpful to take a look at previously-done transcriptions of the type you are sending by visiting the Wicomico County USGenWeb Archives. This will give you an idea of what works, and what doesn't, in regards to format. If you are doing a cemetery transcription, please visit the Wicomico Cemeteries Project How-To page.
FILE FORMAT:
Your transcription should be saved as a plain text file. This will be with a .txt file extension. Please do not use spreadsheet, database, table, or delimited file formatting.
SUBMITTING:
When you're ready to submit a transcribed record, please send it as a plain text file attachment (*.txt) to Shari Handley () .
Your transcription will be converted to html format and uploaded to the Wicomico web site, and a copy of the plain text file will also be submitted to The USGenWeb Archives, where it will be accessible for free by all Wicomico researchers.
