The Dennis family burial ground at Beverly on the Pocomoke River, with a 1970-era transcription and cemetery photographs.
The burial ground at Beverly
The Dennis Family Graveyard is at Beverly, the Dennis family home on the Pocomoke River. Contributor H. Byrd described the burial ground as approximately 40 by 40 feet, enclosed by a brick wall and iron gate, with a sign identifying it as the Dennis Family Burial Ground.
According to Byrd's account, Samuel Dennis of Baltimore established a trust fund for maintenance. In the early 1900s, after tombs began rising or caving in, the burial ground was covered in cement and the markers were replaced on top. Byrd copied the inscriptions in 1970, when more of the stones were still legible, and reported that the last burial was in 1903.
