Also known as Giles - White Cemetery / Dames Quarter Public Burial Ground · 1877 Atlas map: Dames Quarter District No. 2
Cemetery No. 911-O-18-NW
The Giles - White Cemetery is a large historic burial ground in Dames Quarter, west of Dames Quarter Creek. The contributor record places it on the tract Elliott's Choice, patented to Stephen Elliott in 1668, and documents a long succession of local families.
Record note: This update adds the extensive Giles - White transcription and the individually identified gravestone photographs.
Transcription note: The grave information below is presented grave by grave from the contributor record. Original spelling, abbreviations, uncertain readings, and historical condition notes have been retained rather than silently standardized.
Contributor note: The field listing was completed January 12, 1992 after three trips. The contributors reported finding three buried stones by probe, reading three vaults after trees were removed, and returning two massive stones to their original positions.
Unmarked graves: The contributor recorded multiple unmarked vaults and several orphan footstones throughout the cemetery; these site observations are kept here rather than mixed into individual grave transcriptions.

Hidden away in the narrow tomb
Your voice which we loved in other days
Now chants in fullness your Maker's praise
Though the waves have borne you from our sight
You dwell in a land of pure delight
You had your heartaches and troubles here
But as you dwell in that brighter sphere
They only make there your crown more bright
And your newfound robe a purer white
And from earthly cares and trials free
Dear Alice, you rest in eternity
