Somerset Cemeteries Project
Mt. Vernon · Hungary Neck District #5 · Somerset County, Maryland
Cemetery No. 911-H-24-center
The cemetery is in Hungary Neck (Mt. Vernon). It was badly overgrown when Rebecca F. Miller and Philip Goldsborough recorded it in 1993. During a March 2004 visit, Ed Smith and Philip Goldsborough found that adjoining landowners had cleared about 75 percent of the site.
Numerous fieldstones may mark additional burials. David Pietroski shared a sketch showing the locations of fieldstones; that map is included here.

Born Feb. 28, 1822
Died Nov. 28, 1899
Aged 77 yrs. & 9 mos.
Tis hard to break the tender cord,
When love has bound the heart,
Tis hard, so hard to speak the words,
We must forever part.
Dearest loved one we must lay thee,
In the peaceful graves embrace;
But thy memory will be cherished,
Till we see thy heavenly face.
