Located near the community of Upper Hill on Back Creek, also called Maddox Creek. The burial site is on high ground on the south side of the creek and can be reached by boat. The contributors recorded concrete vaults, field stones used as head and foot markers, and many cast concrete posts with hand-scripted or stamped initials.

The field notes report that the grounds were used to bury enslaved people in early times. They also record two veterans at the site, including Jackson Custis of Company C, 19th U.S. Colored Infantry.
