In the name of our God Amen I Rachel Hitch of Somerset County in the
province of Maryland being very sick and weak in body but in perfect mind
and memory thanks be to the almighty God for it_____ Item I give and
bequeath to Amy Dafter Leah Hitch my best bead and furniture and bead stead
mat and corde____likewise I gave to my sister Leah Elgate Hitch my next
best bed and furniture slat and matt and Corde____ likewise I gave to my
Dafter Leah Hitch one cowe and yarlin and one horse and one pewter dish and
three plates and Bason and____Likewise to my Sun Elgate Hitch one cowe and
yarling and one woke of oxens one puter dish and three plates and one
bason___ Likewise I gave my Negro man Jack to my Dafter Leah Hitch and this
is my last will and testament hearby revoking all others and former Wills
by me made in Testament whereof I have sett my hand and fixt seal this 10
day of December anno Domini 1771

On the twentieth day of August one thousand seven hundred and seventy three
Came Joshua Hitch and Richard Nicholson the two subscribing witnesses and
made oath on the Holy Evangilist of Almighty God that they did see the
Testator Rachel Hitch sign and seal the writhin Will and at that time the
devise of her negro man Jack was gift t be equally divided between her
Daughter Leah Hitch and her son Elgate Hitch and at the same time heard her
acknowledge pronounce and declare the same to be her Last Will and
Testament and at the time of her sodoing she was to the best their
apprehansions of a sound disposing mind memory and understanding and that
they subscribed their names as witnesses to the said Will and in the
presence of the said testator. . . . .
Sworn before Thos. Holbrook Deputy Commy. Of Somerset County Whereas
my mother Rachel Hitch, in her last Will and Testament did devise the her
negro Jack to be Equally divided between myself and my Brother Elgate Hitch
and some time after the signing and sealing the said Will that on that part
of the devise left to my Brother Elgate Hitch appeared to be seratihed [-
?]out, but do hereby consent and agree that my brother Elgate Hitch should
have one half of the said negro Jack, as witness my hand this 17 day of
August 1773
