Mary Somers. C 1815-10
In the name of God Amen I Mary Somers of the County of Somerset and
State of Maryland do make and constitute this to be my last will and
testament in manner and form following: I commit my soul to God who gave
it my body to the earth to be buried in my garden beside my first
husband William Smith. I desire my executor to have placed over my
remains a suitable tomb stone with appropriate inscriptions all to be
paid for by him out of my estate. I desire that the burying ground be
reserved for the family and that my executor shall sell all the rest of
my estate both personal and real except the legacys herein after named.
1st I give to my sister Elizabeth M. J. Barnes the sum of fifty dollars.
2nd I give to my brother Isaac H. Adams the sum of one hundred and fifty
dollars, should Isaac H. Adams die before I do I then give that amount
to my sister Nancy M. Mills. 3rd I give and bequeath to George Dennis
the afflicted son of George R. Dennis, Dec. the sum of one hundred
dollars. 4th After the payment of the specific legacys and other
expenses connected with my estate I give and devise the residue of my
estate as follows: 5th I give to my sister Nancy M. Mills two thirds of
the remainder of my estate 6th I give to the children of my sister Sarah
E. J. Barnes deceased, and the children of my sister M. J. Barnes the
remaining one third of my estate to be divided equal each and each to
share alike 7th I hereby constitute and appoint Henry J. Adams executor
of this my last will and testament In testimony whereof I hereunto set
my hand and affix my seal this twenty third day of May 1885. Mary Somers

Somerset County, to wit April 10th 1888. Then came Elijah S. Broughton
and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the foregoing
instrument of writing is the true and whole last will and testament of
Mary Somers late of Somerset County deceased, that hath come to his
hands or possession and that he doth not know of any other before H.H.

Somerset County to wit: April 10th 1888 Then came Elijah S. Broughton
one of subscribing witnesses to the foregoing last will and testament of
Mary Somers late of Somerset County deceased, and he made oath on the
Holy Evangely of Almighty God that he did see the testatrix therein
named, sign & seal this Will: that he heard her publish, pronounce and
declare the same to be her last Will and Testament. That at the time of
her so doing, she was, to the best of his apprehension of sound and
disposing mind, memory and understanding, capable of executing a valid
deed or contract; and that he subscribed his name as witness to this
Will in the presence, and at the request of the testatrix; and in the
presence of the other subscribing witnesses thereto. He further deposed
that he saw Wm. H. Broughton and H.A. Broughton subscribe their names as
witnesses to this Will in the presence and at request of the testatrix.
