Transcription
I Joseph Surman of Somerset County in the Province of Maryland being now
sick but of perfect mind and memory do hereby make this my last will and
testament I give to the under mentioned persons at my decease my goods be
as followethViz I give to my beloved sister Margaret Anderson my oldest
Mair one bed one yoak of oxen and tub one pail one piggin twelve pounds of
wool one pair of wool cards one some 4 pigs and three Borrows and it is my
desire that part of what is due me at W. Levin Gales be applyed to the
discharge of my brother Wm. Anderson accdt. with Levin Gale as the property
of my said sister, these I leave to my sister to Enable her the better to
bring up her three youngest children Viz Jofeph John and Jofeph______I
give to my niece Sarah Surman Fifty shillings~common circulating money and
five pounds of wool I give to my beloved nephew Nehemiah Surman all my
remaining Estate of what kind soever after the above legaues are paid______
It is my desire that my nephew Nehemiah Surman and all his Estate be put
into the hands of Mr. John Leatherbury [funr?] whose care I request______
The above I acknowledge to be my last will and testament and have hereunto
set my hand and seal this seventeenth Nov. 1772

On the 30th day of November 1772 Came Henry Gale and made oath that the
writhen instrument of writing is the true an only will and testament of
Joseph Surman late of Somerset County deceased that hath come to his hands
pofsefsion or knowledge and that he did not know or ever heard of any
other______
Sworn before Thos. Holbrook Deputy Comy. Somerset County on the
thirteenth day of November one thousand seven hundred and seventy two Came
Henry Gale and Richard Tully the two subscribing witnefss and made oath on
the Holy Evangilist of almighty God that they did see the testator Joseph
Surman Sign and seal the writhen will and heard him publish pronounce and
declare the same to be his last will and testament and at the time of his
sodoing he was to the best of their apprehasions of a sound disposing mind
memory and understanding and that they subscribed their names as witnefss
to the said Will in the presence of the said Testator_____
