In the Name of God Amen this thirteenth day of August in the thirteenth
yeare of the dominion of Charles Lord and Proprietary of the province of
Maryland [?] Ano Domn 1687. I John Shepway, of Manokin River in the County
of Somerset and province of Maryland being sick of body but of good and
perfect memory thanks be to god Almighty and knowing the uncertainty of
this present life and being desirous to settle things in order doe make
this my last will and testament in manner and form following ~ First and
princepally I comend my soul to go God Almighty my creator and assuredly
believing that I shall receive full and free pardon of all my sins and be
saved by the precious death and meritt of my blessed savior and redeemer
Jesus Christ and my body to the earth from whince it was taken, to be
burried in a decent and Christian Manner, and as touching such worldly
Estate as the lord in mercy hath lent me, My will is that it be bestowed
and imployed as hereafter expressed ~ I will, that all those debts and
duties which I owe in right or conscience to any manner of persons whatever
shall be well and truly paid and satisfied withen a convenient item after
my decease, by my Executor hereafter named, I leave and bequeath unto
Abraham Heath a parcell of land adjoining unto that land which I formily
sold and alienated unto the said Abraham beginning at a bridge commonly
called Thomas Manlove, bridge thence with a line drawn North, fifty paces
and from thence with a direct line to his corner tree, to the south Abraham
and his heirs likewise I leave unto the sd. Abraham a horse commonly called
and known by the mane Dredgar, and a cow called Rose with her calf and all
the future increase to the sd. Abraham and his heirs forever. And as for
what cattle I have freely give unto the children of the sd. Abraham being
in their own proper marks. It is my will that they [quietly?] possess and
enjoy them without any molestation or trouble with all their future
Increase they and their heirs forever ~ I give and bequeath unto Arslie
Heth a grey mare commonly called and known by the name, Nannie, with all
her future increase for the good and benefit of the said Arslie and her
children or as she shall see fitt to order and dispose thereof, to be
enjoyed by the sd. Arslie and her heirs or by any person or persons to
whome the said Arslie shall dispose of the said Mare or any of her increase
to be enjoyed I say without any molestation or trouble form any person or
persons whatsoever, [internedly?] therewith or any way seeking to deprive
the said Arslie of the said mare or any part her increase as to dispose of
her or any part of her increase without the full consent of the said
Arslie, Likewise I leave unto the said Arslie above with her calf commonly
called and known by the name ( ) ? with all her future increase
to be enjoyed by the sd. Arslie and her heirs forever_________
I leave and bequeath unto the boy John Heath my now dwelling plantation
with all that parcell or tract of land called Shepways Choice, bounded as
per [follow????] will appear to be enjoyed by the said boy and his heirs
for ever likewise I leave unto the said boy the remainder of that tract
called Deep, which I sold and left to Abraham Heath and in case it should
please god to remove the said boy before he comes to years It is my will
that Mary Heath sister of the said boy quietly possess the said land she an
her heirs for ever I likewise unto the said boy my old mare called Feanie
and her yearling colt with all their future increase unto the said Boy and
his heirs, only it is my will that John Brown be possessed with the colt
that the old mare now goeth withall be it mare or horse with all its
increase he and his heirs forever Likewise I leave unto the sd. boy a cow
with her calf commonly called and known by the name (MayFlour) with all
there increase to the said boy his heirs, Likewise I leave unto the sd. boy
all household furniture and necessary and properly belonging to me, with a
gun and a pare of Pistols and holsters and all my wearing cloths. With the
[Milno???] and my chest______
I leave and bequeath unto John Brown a heifer commonly called and known by
the name Blossom with all her future increase unto the said John Brown an
his heirs forever, likewise I leave unto the sd. John Brown my young horse
called and known by the name Nobbie with my new saddle and bridle unto the
sd. John Brown an his heirs, Likewise it is my will that the said John
Brown shall have and enjoy what privileges and liberty the sd. John hath
formily enjoyed here in my house and plantation both for himself and his
creatures without any molestation or disturbance from any person or persons
whatever during his pleasure and that the sd. John Brown shall have the
privileges yearly to beat Syder in any orchard to the duty of three or four
hundred gallons and to sow an plant what he pleases with housing necessary
for the same, also I leave Prittiest yearling and his increase to the sd.
John Brown, I leave unto Grace Gullet a cow calf next spring to run for the
good and benefit of the sd. Grace Gullet and her heirs with all its future
increase_____ It is my will that the Boy Abraham Heath have a cow calf
next ensuing spring its future increase to him the said Abraham an his
heirs_____ Also I leave to the sd. boy my short gun________ I leave and
bequeath Mr. William Truitt a cow commonly called Lady with all her future
increase unto the said Mr. William Truitt and his heirs ___ It is my will
that the boy John Hoth have the remainder of my cattle and hogs ~ with all
their increase he and his heirs and that the said boy be sufficiently
schooled and taught to read and to write
I constitute and appoint Abraham Heath to be Executor of this my last will
and testament disanulling and making void any [forms??] will or wills by
and made wither by word or write and I appoint David Browne and Mr. Roger
Woolford overseers here of ~ In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my
hand and seale the day and year above written ________
