Record: Somerset County Land Records, Liber P, folios 108-110. On January 13, 1804, Joshua Hall conveyed one-half acre of Halls Adventure to seven trustees in trust for a Methodist Episcopal meeting house to be called Maddux Meeting House.

This indenture made the thirteenth day of January in the year of our
Lord god 1804 between Joshua Hall of Somerset County in the State of
Maryland of the one part and James Tilghman, Henry H Curtis,

Josiah Coulbourn, Tubman Mitchell, Samuel Ford, John Hall and Lazarus
Maddux all of the same place as the other part Witnesseth that the said
Joshua Hall for and in consideration of the full and just sum of five
dollars to him in hand paid by the said James Tilghman,Henry H Curtis,
Josiah Coulbourn, Tubman Mitchell, Samuel Ford, John Hall and Lazarus
Maddux, at and before the unsealing and Delivery of these presents the
receipt where of is hereby acknowledged and the said James
Tilghman,Henry H Curtis,Josiah Coulbourn,Tubman Mitchell, Samuel
Ford,John Hall and Lazarus Maddux their Heirs and Executors and
Administrators Therefore forever Discharge by these presents doth give
grant bargain and sell alien enfeoffe release and confirmed and by these
present doth give,grant, bargain and sell alien Enfeoffe release and
confirm unto the said James Tilghman,Henry H Curtis,Josiah Coulbourn,
Tubman Mitchell,Samuel Ford, John Hall and Lazarus Maddux their Heirs
and Successors forever all that part of a Tract Of Land called Halls
Adventure situate lying and being in Somerset County which said part do
hereby conveyed or intended to be is bounded as followeth Beginning at a
marked post standing on the South side of the county road that leads
down Potato Neck near to the fork of the said road made by the Warehouse
Road which post is a Division Bounder between the lands of the said
Joshua Hall and the lands of Littleton Dawsey and running from the said
post North four degrees thirty degrees East ten perches thence North
Eighty Five degrees thirty minuets west eight perches a marked gum
thence South four degrees thirty minuets West ten perches to a marked
Pine and from thence with a straight line to the beginning containing
one half of an Acre of land. To have and to Hold the said Lands and
premises appurtenances unto the said James Tilghman, Henry H. Curtis,
Josiah Coulbourn, Tubman Mitchell, Samuel Ford, John Hall and Lazarus
Maddux and their Heirs and Successors forever. In special Trust that the
said James Tilghman,Henry H Curtis, Josiah Coulbourn, Tubman Mitchell,
Samuel Ford, John Hall and Lazarus Maddux or their successors Build are
Cause to be built on the said Lands a Meeting House for the use of the
Methodist Episcopal Church to be called by the name Maddux Meeting
House- and in further trust that they permit no preacher to use the same
unless they be authorized by the Conference of the Methodist Episcopal
Church to preach or Expound the Holy Scriptures and in further Trust
that when any of the said trustees shall Die or Cease to be members of
the said Church that the survivors of them will meet at a place by them
to be appointed and Elect other Trusties to supply the Vacancy or
Vacancies so made as Directed as directed by the discipline of said
Church so that the number of Seven Trusties maybe kept up forever. In
testimony whereof the said Joshua Hall to these presents his hand hath
set and seal affixed the day and year first above written.
