"LONG HILLS" - DASHIELL FAMILY GRAVEYARD

[ Long Hills ]
This view of the Long Hills house and graveyard is as seen from the banks of the Wetipquin Creek.

Long Hills, with its almost completely restored colonial house, was the ancestral home of the Dashiell family. The first Dashiell in early Somerset County was James Dashiell, who purchased the Long Hills tract in 1668. The home was built in the early 1700s, and lies on the north bank of Wetipquin Creek. Donald Singleton is the resident caretaker of the property, and is writing a book about it. If you have any information and/or old photographs of the Long Hills property, please contact him. The cemetery, which lies between the house and the creek, is accessible via a lane that comes in south off of Wetipquin Road, about 1/2 mile east of its intersection with Royal Oak Road, and is in very good condition. This cemetery listing was obtained on Sunday, August 3, 1997 by Shari Handley, Jill Pevear, Chris Pevear, Robert Simms, and Paul Willing.
