Wicomico County MDGenWeb Genealogy and local history on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore

Contribute to the project

Share Your Records

Help make Wicomico County records available to researchers everywhere by sharing transcriptions and other historical material that you have collected.

Why it matters

Your contribution can help another researcher

The free records on Wicomico MDGenWeb exist because researchers and volunteers have generously shared the material they have found and transcribed. A deed, Bible record, petition, vital record, church record, or other source that helped you may be exactly what someone else has been searching for.

Thank you for being willing to share your work. Please use the guidelines below so your contribution can be prepared for the website as accurately and efficiently as possible.

Submission guidelines

Three simple steps

Clear source information and simple formatting make historical transcriptions easier to preserve and publish.

Prepare the transcription

Transcribe the record as faithfully as you can, preserving original names, dates, spellings, and wording. If something is uncertain or illegible, note that rather than guessing.

If you are submitting a cemetery transcription, please use the separate Wicomico Cemeteries Project guidelines.

Save it as plain text

Save the transcription as a plain text file with a .txt extension.

Please avoid spreadsheets, databases, tables, or delimited-file formatting. Simple text is easiest to convert into a clean, accessible web page without changing the transcription.

Send the file

Attach the text file to an email and send it to:

wicomico@mdgenweb.org

Please include the source of the record and the name you would like used for contributor credit.
