Francis J. Stone was the son of Dr. Joseph Stone and his third wife, Jane E. Smith. He was born in St. Mary's County on March 27, 1826 and died in Washington, D.C. on April 20, 1889. Francis J. Stone d. suddenly on Saturday morning in Washington. His remains were brought to this county on Monday last. Buried in Sacred Heart Cemetary.
He was a clerk on the steamer "Wakefield". Was a farmer in Medley's Neck for several years. Later moved to the Milestown section where he left the farm in charge of his wife and two sons. Has a daughter living in California. (St. Mary's Beacon, 4/27/1889).
Francis J. Stone married Francinia M. Shorb, a native of Frederick Co., MD, on April 29, 1846 in Frederick Co.
On the back of this picture, Mr. Fenwick wrote "Francis Stone, Cud Stone's father. Friend of Edwin Coad. He was purser on the 'Express' when it went down off Point No Point. He was saved by swimming under some wreckage and coming up through a port hole."
