In the name of God Amen June the fourteenth day Anno dom Seventeen hundred Eighty eight, I Sarah Gunby of Somerset County in the State of Maryland being in perfect health of Body and of sound disposing mind memory and understanding and considering the certainty of Death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs & thereby be the better prepared to leave this World when it shall please God to call me home do therefore make and publish this my last Will & Testament in manner and form following that is to first and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my Body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor herein after mentioned and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I devise & bequeath as follows

Item I give and bequeath unto my son James Dakes one Negro Woman named Hannah & my largest Iron Pott and Hooks to him, his heirs and assign forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my son Levin Gunby my hand Mill one pare of Iron Pothangers one copper Kettle and my largest Stone Jugg to him and his heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter Sarah Connaway one Negro Girl named Judah and my riding mare and side saddle and one white chest & best linnin spinning Wheel and also the feather bed & furniture that is up stairs which furniture is two sheets, two blankets two pillows and one counterpain and six pewter plates one large pewter dish and one and one small pewter dish and one set of China Tea Ware to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter Mary Cottingham my large looking glass to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Sabroah Gunby my best feather-bed and two sheets two blankets two pillows bedstead cord(?) and matt to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to Thomas Wood Potter one Negro woman named Judah one case and bottles & three cyder casks two washing tubbs and one case of knives and forks called the new case to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to Daniel Dakes one Negro boy named Stephen & one heifer to him & his heirs & assign forever.

Item I give and bequeath to Sabroah Sturges one Negro girl named Esther which he has received and one small pewter dish and three pewter plates, which she had not received to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to Esther Dakes one Negro girl named Rachel and one pewter dish & three plates to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter Sarah Gunby one Iron Tea Kittle my best Iron Pot & one Iron pothanger to her and her heirs forever.

Item I give and bequeath all the remaining part of my estate that is not before given to be equally divided between James Dakes, Levin Gunby and Mary Cottingham their heirs & assign forever.

Item I give and bequeath all my wearing apparel between Mary Cottingham and Thomas Wood Potters Daughters my Daughter Mary Cottingham to share the one half and Thomas Wood Potters Daughter to equally share the remainder.

I do hereby constitute and appoint my son James Dakes to be whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former Wills by me heretofore made ratifying & confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year above written signed sealed published and declared by Sarah Gunby the above named Testator as and for her last Will and Testament in presence of us who at her request & in her presence have subscribed our names as Witnesses.

October the 28th day 1788 then came James Dakes and made oath upon the Holy Evangals of Almighty god that the within instrument of writing is the true & whole last will & Testament of Sarah Gunby late of Somerset County deceased that hath come to his hands or possession and that he doth not know of any others

October the 28th day of 1788 then came William Moore one of the subscribing witnesses to the within last will and Testament of Sarah Gunby late of Somerset County Deceased & made oath upon the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that he did see the Testator therein named sign and seal the this Will and that he heard her publish pronounce and declare the same to be her last Will and Testament and at the time of her so doing she was to the best of his apprehension of sound and disposing mind memory & understanding a& that he did subscribe his name as a witness to the same in the presence & at the request of the Testatrix and he further deponeth that he saw Hope Addams subscribe his name as a Witness to this will in the presence & at the request of the Testatrix.
