Marriage Licenses, 1796 - 1832

These records were transcribed from microfilm (LDS film 0014417 and 0003602) by Jerry Foard. Says Jerry, " I attempted to spell names as found on films .... my pleasure to contribute as researching Maryland from afar is difficult to say the least...." Thanks, Jerry, for providing this data!

After Jerry sent this data and I put it up on the web, Dan Thomas generously sorted the data, giving us an A-Z list by GROOM surname, and another A-Z list by BRIDE surname. This makes the data easier to search, and doubles the usefulness of the list. Thanks very much, Dan!

The following is a quote from the microfilm: "The above list is a list of marriage licenses issued by the clerk of the Circuit Court for Somerset County on the dates specified, and contains the names of both white and colored couples without anything to mark distinction, aalthough there are very few colored names in the list. The lists from May 1805 to May 1807 have been lost or mislaid an cannot be found. The balance of the years are complete. Some few names are illegible and some uncertain. The list is the best that can be made from the old papers."

Some of the licenses with dates from 1867 and before may be for couples residing in what is now Wicomico County, which was formed in 1867 from parts of Somerset and Worcester Counties.
