  TAYLOR   SHRIVER   HOLMES

Rosalie Keefe Mon Jan 20 16:26:57 1997
I am looking for ancestors of Jacob Henry TAYLOR b. 6 February 1836 in Carroll Co, christened 24 April 1836 at Saint Benjamins or Kriders Evangelical Lutheran, Pipe Creek, Carroll, MD. Father George TAYLOR, Mother Catherine. Jacob Henry TAYLOR was apprenticed to a David H. SHRIVER, tanner, 11 May 1844, as found in the Book of Indentures. It says he was an orphan, son of Catherine Taylor. I'm not clear if this means his father was dead and his mother was still alive or that both parents were dead the mother preceded by the father. Jacob Henry TAYLOR was married to Mary Ann Elizabeth HOLMES on 16 July 1855 in Westminster,Carroll,MD. He is not on the Westminster 1860 or 1870 fed. census but wife Mary Ann and children along with her father Elias HOLMES, mother Maria, brothers John, William and Lewis HOLMES, sister Emily. Mary Ann's obituary says that her husband died around 1877 and she and the children went to Illinois. There was a Jacob Henry TAYLOR, confederate, Private, Co. B, 1st Reg - MD captured in Hospitals, Richmond, VA, April 3, 1865. I have not been able to find out if this is the same man. I also know nothing of Elias and Maria HOLMES except what is found on the census. Are there death records for the people of Westminster? Maria HOLMES died between 1860 and 1870. Elias HOLMES was born about 1805, no death date.
