"Colonel John Stuart Skinner assisted Francis Scott Key in 1780-1843 to obtain the release of Dr. William Beanes from the British Fleet in 1814 whose rescue led to the writing of the National Anthem. Erected by the National Star Spangled Banner Centennial Committee on the Centenary of the signing of the treaty of Ghent December 24th, 1814."

Original burial place of Edgar Allen Poe, Oct. 7th, 1849. - November 17th, 1875. Mrs Maria Clemm his mother-in-law lies upon his right and Virginia Poe his wife upon his left under the monument erected to him in this cemetery.
The original marker, bears the inscription "Quoth the Raven never more." The (bird) Raven is carved in top center."
